Painted panel (panggal)

Panel made from the spathe of the sago palm. It has painted on it a bilaterally symmetrical phytomorphic pattern in yellow, black, red and white

Painted panels such as this are often combined with other similar panels to create a larger, highly vibrant effect, decorating a wall or roof in the form of an interior cladding. The Ambunti court house, built in 1974, is a classic example of this effect and has panels remarkably similar to this example.
