Dance paddle

Description:
This spear-shaped object has a short tapered shaft. The tip of the 'blade' and the end of the shaft are painted white. The blade is pierced with three longitudinal slits down each side. Between the slits are patterned horizontal bands which, like the margins, are painted with yellow and black dots on white. The three central areas cut off by the cross bands are painted with a fine mesh pattern, each with five longitudinal strips coloured white, black and yellow. The object is decorated on both sides.

Context:
This thin wooden object has been compared to a canoe paddle, however its fragility makes the suggestion unlikely. It is more likely to be a non-representational dance ornament
