Themes: Natural resources / Clothing / Celebrations

Water was a strong theme at Gooderstone

Water was a strong theme at Gooderstone, not least because of the local resource of the famous water gardens. The mesoamerican objects from the Sainsbury Centre also related strongly to water, and additional input came from stories about waterspirits from the Czeq Republic.

Resource material:
  • Styles of dress in rural East Anglia
  • Flint film
  • Festivals in Mexico and Peru
  • East Anglian dance traditions
  • Snape Hill, Rickinghall
  • Clay in the Americas
  • The Americas - Painting on ceramic surfaces
  • Textiles and dying in the Americas
  • Minerals and natural materials in Papua New Guinea
  • Clothing and body decoration in Papua New Guinea
World art objects:
  • Lime spatula with bird finial. Papua New Guinea. (40006)
  • Circular wooden boss with cross pattern (40024)
  • Crescent shaped shell pendant (40050)
  • Carving of a squatting figure within an arch surmounted by a janus-headed hornbill encircling another human head. (40055)
  • Bark cloth decorated with ornate triangular geometric pattern (40082)
  • Gourd pot or sheath (40088)
  • Bark cloth
  • Fan-like object decorated with a face - possibly a dance mask
  • Crouching figure with beard and sandals
