The role of the artist in relation to environmental issues and communication
We were approached by Simon Read to widen the discussion around coastal erosion in the light of his research and spring 2010 exhibition at The Cut. A group of artists and scientists met at The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts on Thursday 15th April 2010 for a guided tour and talk by Dr Veronica Sekules (head of research and education at The Sainsbury Centre ) of the spring exhibition ‘The Artist’s studio’. The focus was on the role of the artist in relation to environmental issues and communication and was developed further by an enlightening discussion in the educational studio with artist Dr. Polly Binns. Polly had been exploring coastal movement and changes on the North Norfolk coast and developing ideas in a two week residency in The Sainsbury Centre’s educational studio.
