Laxfield Primary School

The children thought very carefully about their own environment and things that were special to them, transferring these thoughts and drawings on to canvas using natural drawing materials, paints and dies.  They also made outdoor nests by foraging for twigs, leaves, and other materials, after thinking about the activities of wrens, jackdaws and magpies. The canvas triangles were made into a 'teepee' or 'bender', and a camp was erected for a final activity of singing and games.

The theme at Laxfield was Nests and Special Places, using for example the theme of the Papua New Guinean bower bird to generate discussions about the children's own 'nests' - their bedrooms and special outdoor places, including dens and woodland areas.
