Falcon Junior School was visited on a snowy day in February for a one-day workshop with the Sainsbury Centre. The theme was myth and symbolism, partly stimulated by the striking totem pole at the front of the school, but also to do with the idea of myth as narrative. The children were stimulated by the Papua New Guinean objects into thinking about belief, myth and spritual worlds. In the afternoon they worked with the artist to make clay plaques, incorporating symbols that they designed themselves. The plaques were combined in various ways with the idea that different combinations of symbols could create different mythical narratives.
