The University of East Anglia, at the centre of the Culture of the Countryside project, is situated on the urban fringes of Norwich at the edge of South Norfolk, bordered by the wooded banks of the Yare Valley. Countryside culture has relevance in the city, which provides a centre for commerce, an outlet for products and a wider context for a sense of place. A number of projects in Norwich are developing ideas about the importance to the city of rural arts and heritage, and about where are the borders between city and country.
